Parish Pastoral Council

Draft Constitution

Aims

1.To assist and support the Clergy in the administration of the three Parishes

2.To provide a means of representing the views of Parishioners to the Clergy

3.To encourage the active participation of Parishioners in the life of the three Parishes

4. To assist in promoting a sense of unity within the three Parishes while preserving something of the unique

  character of each

5.To assist in the promotion and organisation of pastoral and social events in the life of the three parishes

6.To promote ecumenism and witness to gospel values within the wider community

Membership

The core membership will be elected. It will be representative of the three parishes, with a minimum of three members from each. Election will be for a period of two years, though members may be re-elected for a second term.

At each election, sufficient members of the old council must remain to allow continuity.

In addition, there will be such co-opted members as the core group deems desirable. Co-option may be for one meeting for a particular purpose or on an extended basis.

A member who misses three consecutive meetings without apology or known reason will be deemed to have resigned.

Frequency, place and time of meetings

Meetings will be three times a year and will take place in September, February and May. There may be extra meetings in response to particular needs.

Meetings will be on Thursday evenings at 7.00pm, and will finish by 9.00pm.

This may be changed during the winter.

Offices

There will be a chair, a minute secretary and a vice chair/reserve minute secretary. They will be chosen from the three parishes. The office bearers will be elected at the AGM in May. Other offices may be established as the Council deems necessary.

Attendance

Members should attend meetings; apologies should be submitted for any absences. In the event of absence, members may submit written reports to express their opinions.

The quorum is set at 50%, currently 6 people; this must include at least one person from each parish.

Any member of the parish may attend the meetings, but they do not have the write to talk, unless invited by the Council.

Minutes

The minutes are to be issued by the second Sunday after the meeting. They will go to members and be displayed on the church notice boards.

Agenda

The agenda should be issued two Sundays before the meeting. Any parishioner may submit items to any member or to the Parish Priest. Late additions may be made, at the discretion of the chair.

Approved 11th. February 2010.
