The church was first opened in 1879, and was the first brick-built church anywhere in Scotland; this accounts for it being listed.
Work started on the renovation of the church in the first week of June, the contract is expected to run for 12 weeks.
The work breaks down into four sections:
1. repair the roof and make it water-proof
2. repoint the external walls to stop the ingress
of water
3. install a toilet in the front area of the church
4. re-wire the electricity supply and install new
lighting in the main body of the church.
